Bryce Harper sets personal workout record during quarantine

The entire city of Philadelphia misses watching Bryce Harper step up to the plate at Citizens Bank Park and hit some baseballs. We aren't getting that for a while, at least a few weeks. But if you miss hearing Harper talk ball, you're in luck today.

Harper was a guest on Barstool Sports' Starting 9 podcast with former MLB pitcher Dallas Braden and he spoke for two full hours! There's a ton to chew on, from Harper talking about getting to spend time with his son Krew while in isolation to an in-depth telling of his free agency process. And so much more.

Philly fans will be happy to hear that Harper is working out as hard as ever, even setting a personal record deadlift at 505 pounds. But there are challenges to overcome as well.

"I think it's so tough after the season to come back and you try to get going as quick as possible," Harper said, "but also you want to have that time to recover and get through that first month of the offseason and splurge on whatever you want, eating-wise, going on trips, etc."

Philly fans who follow Harper on Instagram may remember his amazing travels through Italy, France, and Switzerland this past winter.

"When you're going through the season, it's tough to work out," he said. "I love to work out. I love to go about it the right way. Working out, lifting, doing Pilates, eating right. So right now, being in this quarantine, I'm not going to complain because I'm able to go workout, I'm able to hang out with my family and see my son. Those are the big things in my life that I enjoy doing. I'm able to hit with my dad still and get that work in that I need to.

"It comes with a give and take. I want to get ready for the season, but when is it going to start? Baseball players are always on a schedule and now we don't know. Now it's like, 'Hold on and wait. Should I start hitting? Should I start lifting, what should I do?' I got to the point where I'm treating it like it's November. Get back into my workouts, still do my Pilates, do the things I need to do to be ready when they say we're coming back."

Harper goes into detail on his thought process as a young kid in high school looking to transition into Major League Baseball and the challenges that came with that. There's also some fascinating stuff on the mentality of baseball players getting into brawls and much more.
