While Bryce Harper is making a run at the National League MVP award, his homie and Spring Training roommate has collected a nice accolade himself.

Bryson Stott, the Phillies’ first-round pick in the 2019 draft, has been named winner of the Paul Owens Award as top position player in the organization’s minor-league system for 2021.

Right-handed pitcher Jean Cabrera has been named winner of the award on the pitching side.

Both players will be honored before Monday night’s game at Citizens Bank Park.

Stott, a left-handed hitting shortstop out of UNLV, hails from Las Vegas, the same hometown as Harper. The two players have known each other for years and lived together during spring training in Clearwater, Fla. earlier this year.

Entering Friday, Stott, 23, was hitting .294 with 26 doubles, two triples, 15 home runs, 46 RBI, 64 runs, 55 walks, nine stolen bases, a .381 on-base percentage and a .493 slugging percentage in 100 games between High A Jersey Shore and Double A Reading.

“Bryson has played consistently great baseball all season long on both sides of the ball,” Phillies general manager Sam Fuld said.

Stott has played mostly shortstop this season, but he can play second base and third base. He could figure in the big club’s plans at any one of those positions as soon as next season.

Among a poor crop of pitching prospects throughout the system, Cabrera had a strong season in the Dominican Summer League, a low classification of pro ball. The 19-year-old right-hander, a native of Venezuela, went 3-1 with a 1.37 ERA in 11 starts in his first professional season. He posted a 0.85 WHIP while holding opponents to a .196 batting average.

“Jean has dominated hitters this season and put himself on the radar within the organization,” Fuld said. “He fills up the strike zone with his fastball, slider and changeup, and has flashed some exciting stuff for a 19-year-old. He possesses meaningful upside with his combination of stuff, command and competitiveness. He is very well-deserving of this award.”
