Twitter is a better place with Charlie Manuel and Larry Bowa, two baseball lifers who are trying right now to find ways to pass the time like the rest of us.
MLB Network last Wednesday aired the famous 23-22 Phillies win over the Cubs from 1979 and Bowa, 5-for-8 in the game, chimed in that he was indeed watching along.
Just watched the replay of the 23-22 game vs the Cubs on MLB network. Brought back a lot of great memories. We had a helluva team back then. There’s another replay on at 7p tonight if you’re looking for something to watch. Stay safe, and let’s flatten the curve.— Larry Bowa (@LarryBowa10) March 18, 2020
Bowa, 74, was in his typical hands-on role at spring training, hitting groundballs, working with infielders and baserunners. Manuel was not, recovering from multiple surgeries and documenting some of it along the way.
Charlie has been answering dozens of questions of fans over the last few days. Some of the highlights:
• Utley or Robby Alomar in their prime?
You’re asking me a question I wouldn’t answer! Huge respect for both those guys - I always told each of them they were the best. Like asking me to pick between Thome and Howard.— Charlie Manuel (@CMBaseball41) March 21, 2020
• How's my son's swing look?
He’s staying on the ball and using his hands, looks a little young to teach him good mechanics. Let him keep practicing at going straight to the baseball. Looks like he likes to hit.— Charlie Manuel (@CMBaseball41) March 21, 2020
• PEDs vs. electronic sign-stealing
LOL knowing which pitch is coming— Charlie Manuel (@CMBaseball41) March 21, 2020
• Best swing in the majors?
Trout and Rendon, Soto— Charlie Manuel (@CMBaseball41) March 21, 2020
• Who made the best in-game adjustments?
George Brett comes to mind— Charlie Manuel (@CMBaseball41) March 22, 2020
