Even after Saturday's rainout, both the Phillies and Mets are going with Sunday's scheduled starting pitchers.
Aaron Nola (5-1, 2.05) will face Jacob deGrom (3-0, 1.87) in the 1:35 p.m. series finale.
Both Noah Syndergaard (Saturday's scheduled starter) and deGrom are aces so it's not much of a respite for the Phils. DeGrom has faced the Phillies 11 times and gone 6-1 with a 2.78 ERA and 73 strikeouts in 68 innings.
Syndergaard has also pitched well against the Phils but lasted just four innings in the season's earlier meeting with the Phils fouling off 22 pitches and forcing him to throw 92.
Rolling with Nola makes obvious sense for the Phillies. He's their best pitcher, so why not potentially try to get in an extra start from him? Plus, with Monday's off-day, Nola would have had two full extra days of rest, not exactly what you want when a pitcher is as locked-in as he's been.
Nola faced the Mets in his second start and it was his worst outing of the season — 5 innings, 4 hits, 2 runs, 4 walks, 4 strikeouts.
Though both the Phillies and Mets are off Monday, the postponed game will be made up Thursday, Aug. 16 in a single-admission doubleheader beginning at 4:05 p.m.
