J.T. Realmuto reaches 2 more milestones as second-half surge continues

The Phillies fell behind 5-0 on Wednesday night in Cincinnati before a pair of two-run homers made it a game again. Logan Morrison hit a pinch-hit homer, his second with the Phillies, two batters before J.T. Realmuto made it a one-run game with a blast of his own.

Realmuto, with that swing, tied his career highs in both home runs (21) and RBI (74). He has also set career highs this season in doubles (33), walks (39), runs (82) and runners caught stealing. The Phillies still have 24 games left after tonight.

Realmuto is a near lock to win the National League Gold Glove at catcher. His defense has always been well-regarded but has reached an even higher level this season. He is without flaws defensively.

He also has gotten stronger as the season has gone on, which is impressive for a catcher who plays so frequently. Realmuto has started 116 of the Phillies' 138 games behind the plate — essentially six of every seven games every week. Entering Wednesday's game, Realmuto had caught 85 more innings than any catcher in the majors.
