Undermanned Phillies without 2 of their best bats Sunday afternoon

J.T. Realmuto is out of the Phillies’ lineup in Game 1 of Sunday’s doubleheader against the Marlins.

Rhys Hoskins, who had his wrist bent back on a play at first base Saturday, is also out of the Game 1 lineup.

Realmuto experienced hip discomfort running down the first base line and exited Saturday night’s game in the bottom of the ninth. Hoskins stayed in the game.

Andrew Knapp catches Game 1 for the Phillies. He may have to catch Game 2 as well. Ronald Torreyes is an option as an emergency catcher.

Here is the Phillies’ Game 1 lineup against Marlins rookie Sixto Sanchez.

1. Andrew McCutchen DH
2. Jean Segura 2B
3. Bryce Harper RF
4. Alec Bohm 1B
5. Phil Gosselin 3B
6. Andrew Knapp C
7. Adam Haseley CF
8. Kyle Garlick LF
9. Ronald Torreyes SS

The Phillies will start reliever Ramon Rosso (the 29th man) in Game 1. Zach Eflin will start Game 2.

Including Sunday, the Phillies have 14 games in an 11-day span. If they’re without Realmuto for even a few days it could prove costly.

You have to wonder how much Realmuto’s looming free agency will play into this. It would be justifiable for him to want to sit a few days until he feels better or the risk of re-injury is reduced.

Realmuto has hit .267/.357/.527 this season with 11 homers and 30 RBI.
