Manny Machado on visit with Phillies: ‘Pretty awesome'

Manny Machado was in Philadelphia on Thursday and visited Citizens Bank Park as part of his free-agency tour of potential suitors.

The former Baltimore Orioles slugger had a brief, fun interaction with a fan on his way into the ballpark (see story), where he was then greeted at the door by GM Matt Klentak.

Manny spoke to NBC Sports Philadelphia's John Clark on his way out of the ballpark.

So how did Machado's visit with the Phillies go?

"Pretty awesome," Machado said. "Learned a lot about the organization. Very fun."

As far as a timetable for signing, Manny wasn't as clear.

"I don't know about that. That's my agent's job," he said. "I'm just enjoying the ride."

Machado was also asked whether having the people that drafted him in Baltimore now running the Phillies made him more comfortable.

"It was a great conversation with them," he said. "Matt [Klentak], Andy [McPhail], they're all great people."

Machado is expected to dine and spend the evening in Philly.

Our Phillies insider Jim Salisbury wrote more about the Phillies' specific plan for the day of wooing earlier. More on that here.
