Phillies added a super quirky prospect in Rangers trade

Share

The Phillies' biggest trade deadline move was a six-player swap with the Texas Rangers, and while the guys who'll be on the active roster - Kyle Gibson and Ian Kennedy - earned the headlines, the third name heading to Philly is probably the wildest and most entertaining dude in the deal.

Phillies fans, meet Hans Crouse. He's a wild one.

Crouse, a 22-year-old righty, seems to be one-of-a-kind. He sports a truly unique style, featuring a sometimes-there mustache and an always-there assortment of neck and neck-adjacent tattoos:

He also has not one, not two, but three strange wiggles that he likes to deploy in his delivery as he tries to confuse batters in the box and throw off their rhythm.

Here's a little behind-the-scenes video of Crouse explaining his strange movements, and also the reason he takes the field to stretch exactly 28 minutes before he steps on the mound:

Yeah, this dude is definitely one of one.

He also endeared himself to Philly sports fans with a tweet that was dredged up from last October, when Crouse was watching a little football on a Sunday afternoon.

That fateful day, the Chicago Bears beat the Bucs, 20-19, as Nick Foles led Chicago down the field for a field goal with 1:13 to go. Afterwards, Tom Brady decided to not shake Foles' hand on the way off the field.

Crouse loved every minute of it:

From the 'stache and the tattoo, to his whimsical approach to the game, right down to the dude's almost fictional name, Crouse feels like an instant fan favorite. What a guy.
