Like father, like son: Pat McCarthy pulls a Tom McCarthy with catch in stands

What is it about these McCarthys and a flair for the dramatic?

On June 27, 2014, Tom McCarthy caught a home run ball off the bat of Freddie Freeman in the first inning of a game the Phillies' announcers broadcast from the stands at CBP. It still feels made-up. How in the world did that happen? It's obviously the only time in the history of Major League Baseball that a play-by-play man caught a home run ball during a game he was broadcasting.

McCarthy's son, Patrick, made a casual grab himself of a long fly ball Tuesday during the Phillies' spring training game against the Blue Jays at Spectrum Field.

T-Mac's place in family history is safe because P-Mac caught it on the bounce, and there was significantly less pressure. Still a fun visual nonetheless because of the pure happenstance — and also because of the slogan directly behind it.

Patrick McCarthy, the radio voice of the Triple A Lehigh Valley IronPigs, knows that bragging rights still belong to pops.
