Will Bohm's big night earn him another look in Phillies' starting lineup?

MIAMI -- Joe Girardi says he's going to play Alec Bohm at third base again one of these days, but he won't put a timetable on it.

After Saturday night's 10-3 win over the Miami Marlins, Girardi didn't sound like he's quite ready to play Bohm in the field. But Bohm could be forcing himself into more action somewhere because of his bat. He got his first start in five days on Saturday night and his team-high three RBIs helped the Phils snap a four-game losing streak.

After going 2 for 16 with runners in scoring position in the first two games of the series -- including 0 for 9 on Friday night -- the Phils went 5 for 8 with runners in scoring position in the first two innings as they built an 8-0 lead for lefty Ranger Suarez.

"There are days when you're not going to look very good offensively no matter who you have in the lineup," Girardi said. "There are just those days. But eventually, these guys are going to get going and when they do we'll have outbursts like today.

"They're too good not to get going."

The Phillies are 4-5 as they head into the series finale with Zack Wheeler on the mound Sunday afternoon.

Serving as the Phillies' designated hitter Saturday night, Bohm drove in the Phillies' first run of the game with a sacrifice fly to center field in the first inning and added another RBI with a single in the second. He singled again in the fourth inning and had another sacrifice fly in the sixth.

Bohm is 7 for 10 on the season with three walks, three sacrifice flies and four RBIs.

Most of Bohm's playing time over the first nine games has come off the bench. He started two of the first four games at third base, made three throwing errors in a game against the Mets on Monday night and hasn't been seen at the position since -- except for pre-game work.

But when he's gotten his chances off the bench or as the DH, he's hit.

"I think really I'm just trying to stay out of my own way, not do too much and let the game come to me," Bohm said. "It's not my job to worry when I'm starting. I just try to put together good at-bats when I'm called on."

It's not that Girardi hasn't had the opportunity to play Bohm at third. Second baseman Jean Segura has missed three straight games with a sore right shoulder. Bryson Stott has moved over from third to play second in Segura's absence with Johan Camargo, signed over the winter to be a super-sub off the bench, getting the time at third base.

After Saturday night's game, it sounded like Girardi was leaning toward sticking with Camargo at third for Sunday's series finale against the Marlins.

"This is a heavy ground-ball hitting club," Girardi said. "Camargo is really good over there and he's played as good as any third baseman can play. It's not that we don't believe in Bohm, but this is a club that hits ground balls and they're not easy plays.

"As long as we get Alec at-bats, that he doesn't go days without at-bats, he'll be ready for his starts.

"We're going to run him back out there. You can count on it."

Bohm was in the starting lineup Saturday night as the designated hitter because Kyle Schwarber got the day off with lefty Trevor Rogers on the mound. Girardi used the opportunity to get Nick Castellanos a start in left. Schwarber is mired in a 1-for-28 funk. He will likely be back in the lineup Sunday.

Phillies hitters struck out a dozen times Saturday night but that was palatable because they had 11 hits, including four doubles.

The 10 runs equaled half of what the Phils had scored in their previous seven games. They will look for a split of the series behind Wheeler on Sunday.
