Red-hot Harper picks up first award of 2022

Bryce Harper has been on fire at the plate lately, and he's added yet another trophy to his trophy case to show for it.

Harper was named Monday the National League Player of the Week after a six-game run against the Mariners and Dodgers that saw him hit .609 (14-for-23) with three homers, eight RBI and a 1.904 OPS.

Over the weekend he became the first visiting player to hit seven extra-base hits in a three-game span in the 61-year history of Dodger Stadium.

Harper sat out Sunday after getting a scheduled PRP injection for his injured right elbow, and will likely miss Tuesday’s series opener against the Padres.

The reigning NL MVP, who was hitting just .138 through the first eight games of the season, has been white-hot since then, hitting .353 with eight home runs, 22 RBI, and an OPS of 1.118 over his last 26 games.

This is the seventh time in Harper’s career that he won the award and the first time since 2018.

The last Phillies player to win NL Player of the Week? Jay Bruce, back in June of 2019.
