Another injury for Phillies in loss to Giants

Phillies

Phillies catcher Andrew Knapp is in concussion protocol after taking a foul ball off the mask Friday night in San Francisco.

Knapp stayed in the game but was removed to begin the bottom of the seventh inning.

Rafael Marchan will be called up from Triple A and the Phillies will rush him to San Francisco to be active for Saturday’s game. The Phillies and Giants play at 4:05 p.m.

J.T. Realmuto, who sat after starting five consecutive games, entered late for Knapp and struck out in his lone plate appearance.

The Phillies lost the game, 5-3, because of shaky defense and poor command from Vince Velasquez.

The defensive-minded, 22-year-old Marchan has appeared in eight games with the Phillies over the last two seasons and started six. He’s 7 for 21 early in his career with a double, a homer and three RBI.
