The Philadelphia Department of Public Health on Friday announced changes to the city’s coronavirus restrictions.
Beginning March 1, there will be a limit of 2,500 people at outdoor sporting events and 500 people at indoor sporting events.
This signals that a limited number of Phillies fans can return to Citizens Bank Park to watch the team in person on April 1 in the season opener against the Braves, after a 2020 regular season with no fans in the stands.

“This is one step closer to us returning to normal," health commissioner Dr. Thomas Farley said.
Fans cannot attend Sixers and Flyers games just yet. The Wells Fargo Center said in a statement Friday that fans would be allowed back in once the city and state further lift restrictions to increase occupancy. The indoor limit of 500 includes employees and it would not yet be feasible.
“The arena already requires several hundred employees, including team and building operations staff, players, coaches, medical support, broadcasters and others to host games without fans,” part of the statement read. “To welcome fans back to the arena, more than 500 employees would be required onsite.
Wells Fargo Center is optimistic about fans returning at some point in March.
