The countdown is on to full crowds at Phillies home games

We haven’t heard the term “capacity crowds” in these parts in quite some time.

That will change in the next few weeks.

The Phillies announced Thursday morning that they will increase capacity at games at Citizens Bank Park from the current 11,000 to 16,000, beginning with next weekend’s interleague series against the Boston Red Sox that kicks off Friday, May 21.

And that capacity will jump to the full 43,000-plus starting with the Phillies’ interleague series against the Yankees that starts Saturday, June 12.

These changes are in accordance with the state and city’s updates to their reopening plans, announced earlier this week.

“This is a very exciting time in the City of Philadelphia as we begin to return to normalcy,” Phillies executive VP David Buck said in a statement released by the team. “There is nothing better than the energy and enthusiasm that Phillies fans bring to Citizens Bank Park.”

Face coverings will still be required to go to home games and the Phillies will continue to have designated seating pods for fans who prefer a socially-distanced experience. Also, tailgating will be permitted beginning with the Yankees series on June 12.

The team announced that season-ticket holders will get updates on their seats in the next few days and that tickets for all home games beyond June 10 will go on sale May 25.
