Another injury for the already banged-up Phillies?
Sure looks that way.
Pitcher Jake Arrieta limped off the field after delivering a pitch in the top of the sixth inning Tuesday night.
Arrieta hit Andres Gimenez with the pitch then immediately grabbed his right leg. He quickly left the field with an athletic trainer.
Arrieta and the Phillies were leading the New York Mets, 4-1, at the time. Lefty JoJo Romero, who had been warming up anyway, replaced Arrieta.
The Phillies have been hit hard by injuries in recent days. Rhys Hoskins went on the injured list on Tuesday with an elbow injury that may require surgery. Pitcher Zack Wheeler and catcher J.T. Realmuto are nursing injuries. Pitcher Spencer Howard is on the IL. Outfielder Jay Bruce, too.
Losing Arrieta would hurt because he was supposed to make two more starts over the final two weeks of the season. The Phillies are already short on starters with Howard out and two doubleheaders looming in the coming days.
More on Arrieta's condition as it becomes available.
