Phillies sign former Malvern prep star Phil Gosselin, six others to minor-league contracts

The Phillies have signed seven players to minor-league contracts and invited them to big-league spring training camp.

Among the group is infielder Phil Gosselin, a local guy who graduated from Malvern Prep and has played in the majors with the Braves, Reds, Pirates, Diamondbacks and Rangers.

Gosselin, 30, can also play some outfield. He could compete for a utility position similar to the one once filled by Pedro Florimon as the 2019 season goes on. Florimon has signed a minor-league deal with Atlanta.

In addition to Gosselin, the Phils signed left-handed reliever Jeremy Bleich, right-handed reliever Josh Martin, catcher Rob Brantly, outfielder Shane Robinson and infielder Gregorio Petit.

In addition, the team re-signed Matt McBride, a catcher/first baseman/outfielder, who played at Triple A Lehigh Valley last season.
