Roman Quinn bound for the injured list once again

Just as he was beginning to show some signs of life at the plate, Phillies centerfielder Roman Quinn is injured again.

Quinn took a pitch off the right hand as he tried to bunt in the second inning Tuesday night. Clearly in pain, he was tended to on the field but stayed in the game, and, in fact, stroked a base hit to left field.

But after the third out of the inning, Quinn took off his batting glove and saw that he was bleeding. He left the field with an athletic trainer by his side. X-rays were negative, but he needed nine stitches to close a cut on his right index finger.

"It was a pretty deep gash," Quinn said.

Manager Joe Girardi said Quinn would be placed on the injured list.

"We'll have to do something," Girardi said. "I don't even know if he can bend it. He's in a splint."

Quinn has had a difficult first month of the season. He entered the game just 5 for 43 (.116) but had RBI triples in the previous two games. His hit in the second inning ran his modest hitting streak to three games.

"This is very frustrating because I feel like I was starting to get my rhythm," Quinn said. "I feel like every time I start to get my rhythm, something freakish happens that throws me back even more."

Odubel Herrera replaced Quinn in center field. The Phils could bring up Mickey Moniak or Scott Kingery from Triple A to take Quinn's roster spot.

Quinn has been plagued by injuries throughout his career. Over the years, he has missed significant time with a torn quadriceps, a torn Achilles tendon, a strained elbow ligament, a torn ligament in his middle finger, a concussion, a broken toe, a groin strain and an oblique strain.
