Roman Quinn is getting yet another shot to prove himself as a major league baseball player, and with a playoff team, no less.
The oft-injured outfielder, who turns 30 in May, agreed to a minor-league contract with the Cleveland Guardians, with an invitation to spring training next month.
The 2nd-round pick in 2011 was given plenty of opportunities to gain a foothold on the roster through his decade in the organization, but underperformance and injuries eliminated any upward momentum he had. He was non-tendered by the Phillies following the 2021 season, and bounced around through the 2022 season, playing for four different organizations in 2022.
His journey began with a minor-league deal with the Miami Marlins back in March. After not making the final roster, he asked for and was given his release from the team.
A few days later, he re-signed with the Phillies on a minor-league deal, and played in 23 games for the big club, but batted just .162 before being DFA’d June 1. He elected free agency after clearing waivers, and signed a minor-league deal with the Royals a few days later.
He played just seven games for the Royals’ AAA affiliate before being released again, and signed in July with the Tampa Bay Rays. He played 21 games for Tampa, hitting .262 with 21 strikeouts in 42 at bats. He was left off the Rays’ Wild Card roster for the team’s series loss to the Guardians.

He never hit for better than .263 in any season with the Phillies, and carries a .226 lifetime average over 222 total games. But at least for now, he will get one more chance at the bigs.
