Ronald Torreyes will make the Phillies' opening day roster, manager Joe Girardi revealed after Sunday's spring training game, the second-to-last on the Grapefruit League schedule.
The 28-year-old Torreyes, who was in camp as a non-roster invite, fills the role of utility infielder. It became apparent Torreyes would get the nod when the Phillies optioned Scott Kingery to the minor leagues Sunday morning.
Even if Brad Miller, who played Sunday for the first time in 18 days because of an oblique strain, is ready for opening day, he's not an ideal option to play shortstop in a pinch. Torreyes can play any infield spot and any outfield spot.

Torreyes had seven at-bats with the Phillies last season and also played for Girardi in 2016 and 2017 in the Bronx.
"We let him know that he is going with us," Girardi said. "He has the ability to play short, second, third, all over the place, and I would never be scared to put him in the outfield."
The Phillies will need to add Torreyes to the 40-man roster. They'll need to do the same for Matt Joyce and Brandon Kintzler, so corresponding moves are coming.
The bullpen is sorted out. The eight relievers will be Archie Bradley, Jose Alvarado, Hector Neris, Connor Brogdon, Kintzler, Sam Coonrod, Vince Velasquez and David Hale.

The final bullpen decision came down to Coonrod or left-hander JoJo Romero. The hard-throwing Coonrod had a great spring, allowing one run in 8⅓ innings to win the job. Romero will begin the season at the Phillies' auxiliary camp but probably won't be far away from returning.
"JoJo, it was a tough decision between Coonrod and JoJo," Girardi said. "I think JoJo has a chance to be an elite reliever, but I think he has to be more economical. He has to get ahead some more. He's got really, really good stuff, he's got three swing-and-miss pitches. But I think there's still a little bit more that he can do with his command."
The Phillies' last decision will be center field. There are two spots for three players: Odubel Herrera, Roman Quinn and Adam Haseley. Girardi said the Phils will give that decision one more day.
