Plenty of shooting and playmaking in our latest Sixers-only mock draft

With the most unusual of NBA seasons officially over, it’s time for us to take a shot at another Sixers-only mock draft.

The team holds picks 21, 34, 36, 49 and 58 in the draft, which is set for Nov. 18.

21. Desmond Bane

Bane is the kind of player who looks like he could help a team win playoff games right away. He’s a smart, muscular 22-year-old who should be able to guard multiple positions and has a standout skill in his shooting.

The 6-foot-6 TCU product converted 43.3 percent of his three-pointers over four college seasons and also showed more of his skills as a pick-and-roll ball handler this year. He said on Sept. 30 that the Sixers, Suns and Bucks were three of the teams that have shown the most interest in him. We had him at No. 34 in our Sixers-only mock from April, but it appears his stock has risen.

34. Malachi Flynn

Flynn transferred from Washington State after two seasons, sat out the 2018-19 campaign and then was the best player for 30-2 San Diego State as a redshirt junior. He averaged 17.6 points,  5.1 assists and 1.8 steals, shooting 37.3 percent from three-point range on 6.4 attempts per game.

His sophisticated pick-and-roll playmaking would be welcome on the Sixers, who could use both a reliable backup point guard and pieces that effectively complement Ben Simmons. Flynn is undersized at 6-foot-1, but he has a sturdy build, was disruptive defensively in college and could help address some of the Sixers’ weaknesses on offense.

36. Daniel Oturu

For all of the Sixers’ size, they’re not especially well-stocked in terms of young big men. If he drops to this point and the Sixers have already snagged a perimeter player or two, Oturu would be worth considering.

He was ultra-productive as a sophomore at Minnesota, posting 20.1 points, 11.3 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game, in addition to flashing expanded shooting range.

Oturu’s decision-making is a major weakness; he had 34 assists and 88 turnovers in the 2019-20 season. In a low-usage role, though, perhaps the 21-year-old would be less inclined to force things.

TRADE — No. 49 for Magic’s 2021 second-round pick

It would certainly be a surprise if the Sixers came away with five players. This trade gives them a second-rounder likely around the same range next year.

58. Ty-Shon Alexander

A 6-foot-4, 3-and-D guard from Creighton, Alexander could be an option for a two-way contract.

He scored 16.9 points per game and hit 39.9 percent of his threes as a junior, earning a spot on the All-Big East First Team. There are a few questions surrounding how much of his college success will translate to the NBA, including whether he’s too small to defend professional wings, but his steady improvement is promising.

In the G League, one imagines Alexander would guard the opponent’s top perimeter player, as he did at Creighton. He also might have a chance to further refine his ball handling and work on his pick-and-roll chops. Shake Milton benefited from that opportunity with the Delaware Blue Coats, the Sixers’ G-League affiliate.
