Sixers' title odds, MVP favorites and more after NBA Finals

The 2020-21 NBA season is over.

The draft is next week, followed by free agency in the first week of August.

But before that all gets underway, we already are fast forwarding to the spring and summer of 2022.

NBC Sports betting partner PointsBet has listed the Sixers with odds of +1200 ($10 bet to win $120) to win next season’s title. Those numbers are seventh best in the league with the Brooklyn Nets as the favorites at +250, followed by the Lakers (+650) and the newly-crowned champion Bucks (+800).

The Sixers’ 12-1 odds are lower than right before this past season tipped off, when they were listed at 20-1. Factor in Sixers president of basketball operations Daryl Morey at the helm for his second offseason and you can’t rule out that the team will improve by October.

Will Ben Simmons remain in Philadelphia? Will the Sixers go all-in on the Trail Blazers’ Damian Lillard? These are just some of the questions that should get answered over the next few weeks.

One question that is already answered is that the Sixers are Joel Embiid’s team, which is why it should be no surprise the big man has the second-best odds to win MVP at +750 ($10 bet to win $75). Dallas’ Luka Doncic is the favorite at +400. The reigning MVP, Denver’s Nikola Jokic, has the eighth-best odds for an encore performance at +1400, while soon-to-be Sixer (wishful thinking) Lillard is +1200.

Simmons is tied with the Bulls’ Nikola Vucevic and the Pelicans’ Brandon Ingram for the 39th-best odds at +20000 ($10 bet to win $2000).

As for the team's success as a whole, PointsBet lists the Sixers’ over/under on regular season wins at 51.5, which equates to a .628 win percentage. It’s important to note this coming season will revert back to the normal 82-game schedule. In a 72-game schedule for the 2020-21 season, the Sixers won 49 games — or a little over 68 percent —  of their games.

From a betting perspective, the Sixers’ regular-season success may help fatten one’s wallet. However, from a fan’s point of view, the time is now to take those extra steps, get to the NBA Finals and win the whole thing. Seeing the Bucks celebrate was certainly painful to watch knowing the Sixers wasted a good opportunity to end the organization’s 38-year title drought.
