Sources: Sixers agree to re-sign Korkmaz to 3-year deal

The Sixers still like what they see in Furkan Korkmaz.

The team agreed Monday night to re-sign the 24-year-old wing to a three-year, $15 million contract, team sources confirmed to NBC Sports Philadelphia. ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski first reported the news.

Since the Sixers have Korkmaz's Bird Rights, they're able to sign him without being restricted by the salary cap.

Korkmaz has been with the Sixers since being selected 26th overall in the 2016 NBA draft. He expressed after the Sixers' loss to the Hawks in Game 7 of their second-round series that he'd like to return.

“I’ve been here for four years,” he said. “I call Philly a home. I love this city, I love this organization. I would like to come back here, but free agency works differently — the front office, a lot of things going on — you never know. It’s not in your hands.

“I hope I will be in the best fit for myself, either here or somewhere else. But definitely, I would like to come back here. Like I said, I call Philly a home.”

Korkmaz has shot 39.0 percent from three-point range over the past two seasons and brought value in part through his willingness to fire from long range. Defense and dependability have generally been his primary areas of weakness, though the Sixers have been pleased with his development.

When Danny Green suffered a right calf strain during the series against Atlanta, head coach Doc Rivers inserted Korkmaz into the Sixers' starting lineup. He averaged 7.5 points and 3.5 rebounds over the series' final four games, shooting 35.5 percent from the floor and 25 percent from three-point territory.

Korkmaz, Green and Dwight Howard were the Sixers' three significant unrestricted free agents this offseason. Howard agreed Monday night to sign with the Lakers.
