The Sixers announced Tuesday that they’ll celebrate their last team to win an NBA title on March 20.
In a press release, the Sixers said they will hold a halftime ceremony to honor the 40th anniversary of the 1982-83 championship squad during their game next Monday at Wells Fargo Center against the Bulls.
The 2022-23 Sixers will also wear special “Fo’ Fo’ Fo’” warmup shirts, highlighting Hall of Fame center Moses Malone’s famous prediction that the ’82-83 team would sweep through the playoffs. The Sixers ultimately lost just one game in the postseason.

In the team’s release, the Sixers named Julius Erving, Bobby Jones, Maurice Cheeks (a Bulls assistant coach), Marc Iavaroni, Clint Richardson, Reggie Johnson, Clemon Johnson, Franklin Edwards and Earl Cureton as players expected to attend. The family of Malone, who died in 2015 at 60 years old, will also be there.
On March 20, 1983, the ’82-83 Sixers improved to 57-9 with a win over the Pistons behind 39 points from fearless shooting guard Andrew Toney.
At the Sixers Youth Foundation gala on Jan. 26, Erving said Toney is the ’82-83 teammate he’s “probably spending the most time with, because we both live in Atlanta and we get out and play golf.”
No current Sixers player was born yet when the ’82-83 team swept the Lakers in the NBA Finals, but they’ll presumably hear a story or two from head coach Doc Rivers, who was picked 31st overall in the 1983 NBA draft.
