In his workout the morning before Wednesday night’s NBA draft, Tyrese Maxey was also coincidentally sporting some “Process” gear.

Meeting with local reporters via Zoom the morning after the Sixers picked him 21st, Maxey’s apparel was intentional .
“It’s so funny, because my uncle when I was in high school, he gave me this shirt,” he explained. “Not this exact shirt, but he gave me a shirt that said, ‘Fall in love with the process,’ and it kind of just stuck with me. It kind of just stuck with me because of the way I work — getting up at 6 a.m. and doing those different things like that.
"And I wore it yesterday when I worked out at 7 a.m., and I posted it. And then I got drafted to Philadelphia and I just saw it everywhere. I’m like, ‘Wow, OK.’ So I had another one and it was blue, too, so I thought I might as well wear this.”
Those morning workouts have been part of Maxey’s regular routine. He said he’s been working out twice a day since May and making 750-800 shots per session. Fellow Klutch Sports clients like LeBron James and new teammate Ben Simmons have been in the gym for some of those workouts and given him advice. The 20-year-old guard called them “big brothers.”

He glowed Thursday as he described his workouts and the emphasis he’s placed on his jumper and conditioning. Maxey made 29.2 percent of his three-pointers in one year at Kentucky, but both he and the Sixers are confident he’ll exceed that number in the NBA.
“It’s been a great process,” he said. “My thing is to set my own records. I try to make consecutive shots in a row so you can see that consistency build up. So making 20 one day, make 25 the next day, and as high as I am right now, 36. Keep building to have that confidence to where I have it now, where if I feel like I’m open, I’m going to knock it down. I have no doubt in my mind that it’s going to go in.”
