Eric Reid sounds off on ‘sellout' Malcolm Jenkins after Panthers beat Eagles

After the Panthers' come-from-behind win at the Linc on Sunday, the biggest topic of conversation surrounded what happened before the game.

A heated exchange of words between Malcolm Jenkins and Eric Reid led to Reid being herded off the field before Reid eventually ended up in a short shoving match with his own teammate, Torrey Smith, on the sideline.

Tensions have been building for months thanks to animosity stemming from differing opinions about the work of the Players Coalition, which is led by Jenkins.

After the game, Reid called Jenkins — among other things — a coward and a sellout.

While Reid used his postgame availability as a way to attack Jenkins, the Eagles' safety didn't get into a back-and-forth. He first said "nothing" happened between he and Reid before the game and chose to barely respond to the name-calling from Reid.

"I'm not going to get up here and say anything negative about that man," Jenkins said. "I respect him. I'm glad he has a job, I'm glad he's back in the league. I'll leave it like that."

Jenkings helped broker a $90 million deal the Players Coalition worked out with the NFL last year to help with projects dealing with racial inequality. Jenkins stopped his anthem demonstration when that deal was made. Reid left the Players Coalition and has been very critical of the group, once calling it an "NFL-funded subversion group." Reid on Sunday claimed Jenkins co-opted the movement for his own personal gain.

Jenkins said a few times on Sunday afternoon that he's happy Reid is back in the NFL and thinks the only reason he was out of the league was because of his demonstrations and his stance on non-football issues.

"I would never get up here and say anything bad about somebody who I know [their] intentions were about helping their communities, especially another black man," Jenkins said. "I'll leave it at that."
