7 games you can't miss on the 2019-20 Flyers local TV schedule

The Flyers open training camp Friday, which means hockey is almost back in Philly.

The Flyers will play all 82 of their 2019-20 regular-season games on the NBC family of networks, with 60 featured on NBC Sports Philadelphia, 11 on NBC Sports Philadelphia+, another nine on NBC Sports Network and two on NBC10. Every game can be streamed live via the MyTeams app and NBCSportsPhiladelphia.com.

To help you prepare, let's go month by month and look at the best locally-broadcast games on the schedule:

Oct. 4 — Flyers vs. Blackhawks, 2 p.m., NBCSP

A no-brainer here as the Flyers begin the 2019-20 season in Prague, Czech Republic, as part of the NHL Global Series. It will be a special opener, especially for Jakub Voracek playing in his home country. "They have drums, they're singing," Voracek said of the fans in Czech Republic. "It's going to be really, really loud."

Nov. 16 — Flyers vs. Islanders, 7 p.m., NBCSP

These two teams had some bad blood last season, revolving around the Voracek-Johnny Boychuk drama. The matchup marks the Islanders' first trip to the Wells Fargo Center in 2019-20. New York made an impressive run to the playoffs last year and will be an obstacle for the Flyers if they hope to return to the postseason.

Dec. 3 — Flyers vs. Maple Leafs, 7 p.m., NBCSP

Dave Hakstol will make his return to Philadelphia as an assistant coach with the Maple Leafs. The former Flyers head coach was fired by the club in December last season. Cup-contending Toronto is always an exciting team to watch and John Tavares gets booed quite a bit, so it should be a fun atmosphere.

Jan. 31 — Flyers at Penguins, 7 p.m., NBCSP

You can never go wrong with a Flyers-Penguins showdown. The Flyers' new assistant coaches Michel Therrien and Mike Yeo have Pittsburgh track records. The Flyers also went 3-1-0 during an entertaining 2018-19 regular-season series with the hated rival, highlighted by these two goals.

Feb. 8 — Flyers at Capitals, 7 p.m., NBCSP

Matt Niskanen will be back at Capital One Arena for the first time since being traded by Washington to the Flyers during the summer. The veteran defenseman is beloved in D.C. and, of course, won the 2018 Stanley Cup with the Capitals. "It takes everybody, the whole team, the whole organization has to be all in," Niskanen said. "You need some things to go right. What a feeling, though, when you pull it off."

March 28 — Flyers at Devils, 2 p.m., NBCSP

This matchup could have playoff implications for a pair of teams looking to make a jump back into contention this season. It's the Flyers' fifth-to-last game of the year and it comes against Wayne Simmonds and the new-look Devils at the Prudential Center, where things typically get chippy between the two clubs.

April 2 — Flyers vs. Predators, 7 p.m., NBCSP

The Flyers' final home game of the season and it could be a big one against Peter Laviolette and the Predators, who are expected to be Stanley Cup contenders. Carter Hart made 31 saves on 32 shots to beat Nashville at the Wells Fargo Center last season in just his second career game.

7 games you can't miss on the 2018-19 Flyers local TV schedule

7 games you can't miss on the 2018-19 Flyers local TV schedule

Flyers hockey is right around the corner.

The ice is down at the Wells Fargo Center, training camp kicks off Sept. 14 and now the broadcast schedule is out. The Flyers will play all 82 of their 2018-19 regular-season games on the NBC family of networks, with 62 featured on NBC Sports Philadelphia, eight on NBC Sports Philadelphia+, another eight on NBC Sports Network and four on NBC10. Every game can be streamed live via the NBC Sports App.

To help you prepare, let's go month by month and look at the best locally-broadcast games on the schedule:

Oct. 4 — Flyers at Golden Knights, 10 p.m., NBCSP

No duh, right? What a fun season opener for the Flyers, who will travel to Sin City for a clash with the defending Western Conference champions on their banner night. The atmosphere should be palpable fresh off Vegas' historic inaugural season, not to mention the organization's creativity with its pregame ceremonies.

Nov. 24 — Flyers at Maple Leafs, 7 p.m., NBCSP

Remember when John Tavares, the NHL's hottest name this summer, carved down his potential landing spots to six teams during free agency? The Flyers were left off the list, but not by choice. "I don't want to mention any names, so I'll just say, we would have liked to have been in there," Ron Hextall said June 29. The Flyers will see Tavares and his new club for the first time in late November, a contest that will also represent James van Riemsdyk's return to Toronto.

Dec. 20 — Flyers vs. Predators, 7 p.m., NBCSP

Peter Laviolette back in his old stomping grounds is always a game to circle on the calendar. The former Flyers head coach, who was fired three games into the 2013-14 season, brings his talented Nashville club to Philadelphia five days before Christmas. Most Flyers fans seem to have an affinity for Laviolette and it's understandable why — he led the team to the 2010 Stanley Cup Final and has been excellent in Nashville. The Flyers also suffered a pair of frustrating one-goal losses to the Predators last season, so motivation won't be missing.

Jan. 12 — Flyers at Devils, 1 p.m., NBCSP

The Flyers-Devils rivalry is coming back to life as the meetings over the past two seasons haven't lacked drama or feistiness. Both teams are proud of their youth infusions and seem driven for future success. Add in the Nolan Patrick-Nico Hischier angle along with Taylor Hall's victory in the Hart Memorial Trophy race last season over fourth-place finisher Claude Giroux, and you have more than enough spice.

Feb. 11 — Flyers vs. Penguins, 7 p.m., NBCSP

Heard of these guys? While the rivalry has been a bit lopsided of late in favor of Pittsburgh, there's never a dull moment between the Flyers and Penguins. Sidney Crosby and crew haunted the orange and black in 2017-18. Pittsburgh swept the four-game regular-season series and then ousted the Flyers in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Over the regular season and postseason combined, the Flyers were outscored by the Penguins, 48-26. This marks Pittsburgh's first trip to Philadelphia of the new campaign and the Flyers believe things will be much more even.

March 14 — Flyers vs. Capitals, 7 p.m., NBCSP

This is one of three meetings in March with the defending Stanley Cup champions. Yeah, not easy, but at least two come at the Wells Fargo Center. Impressively, the Flyers took last year's regular-season series from the Capitals, 3-1, outscoring Washington, 19-11.

April 6 — Flyers vs. Hurricanes, 7 p.m., NBCSP

In 2015-16, the Flyers clinched their playoff berth on Game 81. Last season, it was Game 82. So the Flyers have tended to require the whole slate, which makes the regular-season finale always a noteworthy date. This year, it's at home against the Hurricanes, who are led by Flyers Hall of Famer and first-year head coach Rod Brind'Amour, while JVR will be facing his brother Trevor van Riemsdyk.
