BUFFALO, N.Y. — Jaret Patterson ran for 133 yards and two touchdowns to lead Buffalo to a 38-22 victory over Temple on Saturday.
Buffalo's first drive stalled at their 45-yard line when Christian Braswell picked off a Matt Myers' pass. Anthony Russo then led the Owls (2-1) on a 12-play drive, capped by his 2-yard touchdown toss to Isaiah Wright. The Bulls (2-2) scored the next 24 points.
A fumbled punt led to Patterson's 4-yard touchdown run. Ledarius Mack sacked Russo and forced a fumble, and the Bulls scored three plays later on Myer's 7-yard TD run. Patterson ran for 52 yards on nine carries, and Kevin Marks capped that drive with a 9-yard touchdown run to end the half with the Bulls up 24-7.
Patterson ran it in from the 3-yard line in the third quarter and Joey Banks returned an interception 46 yards for a score to push Buffalo's lead to 38-10 with 9:43 remaining.
Russo finished 18-of-40 passing for 190 yards with two touchdown passes and three interceptions for the Owls.
Nate Pierre-Louis posted his third straight double-double with 21 points and 12 rebounds as Temple narrowly beat La Salle 70-65 on Saturday.
Quinton Rose had 18 points for Temple (3-0). J.P. Moorman II added seven rebounds and six assists.
The Owls were up 36-22 at the break but La Salle charged back to close to 69-65 after trailing 67-57 with 27 seconds left. Ed Croswell had a layup and Sherif Kenney and Scott Spencer drained treys to cut the deficit to four with :02 remaining.
David Beatty and Kenney had 13 points apiece for the Explorers (1-2). Saul Phiri had 11 points.
Temple matches up against USC on the road on Friday. La Salle matches up against Murray State next Monday.
Nate Pierre-Louis posted 19 points as Temple beat Morgan State 75-57 on Saturday.
Quinton Rose had 16 points for Temple (2-0). Alani Moore II added 14 points. De'Vondre Perry had 12 points for the home team.
Sherwyn Devonish-Prince Jr. had 12 points for the Bears (1-1). Isaiah Burke added 11 points. Stanley Davis had 10 points.
Temple faces La Salle on the road next Saturday. Morgan State plays St. Francis (Pa.) at home on Wednesday.
