When you think about it, Donovan McNabb seems like a pretty good source to analyze the Eagles' forthcoming hiring of Doug Pederson as head coach.
After all, he sat behind the veteran Pederson during his rookie career, was one of the key players during the franchise's glory years and is familiar with how the city and Eagles fans feel and think.
So, naturally, the first thing McNabb did when Comcast SportsNet's Derrick Gunn reached him over the phone to ask him about the Pederson hire was talk about himself.
"If that's the case, who's going to be the next version of me?" McNabb said.
OK, I think he was joking. I think.
Anyway, McNabb went on to actually give some pretty solid analysis of the hire, saying the team may have focused too much on recreating the past with a coach in the mold of Andy Reid during its coaching search. Pederson is Reid's offensive coordinator in Kansas City.
"Sometimes I think we kind of live in the past instead of what can happen in the future or the present time," he said.

He also had some advice for Pederson, who will be embarking on his first NFL head coaching gig.
"For Doug Pederson, don't try to come in and be Andy," McNabb said. "Don't try and be Dick Vermeil. Come in and be Doug Pederson."
