Donovan Mitchell enjoyed Boston's taunting of Ben Simmons in Game 1

The battle of rookies in Boston on Monday night was an impressive one. Ben Simmons and Jayson Tatum both put in solid performances.

But for some reason, Donovan Mitchell of the Utah Jazz finds himself in the news today.

The unoriginal Boston fans decided to hop on the Mitchell wagon and chant "not a rookie!" at Simmons as he shot free throws. Mitchell tweeted a bunch of laughing emojis shortly after it happened.

Mitchell later posted some skull and crossbones on an Instagram of it as well. He was enjoying an off night after the Jazz got destroyed by Houston in Game 1 of their series.

Simmons put up a solid 18-7-7 but also had a rough 7 turnovers and a plus/minus of an ugly -21. Tatum finished with an impressive 28 points and a plus/minus of +18.

Later in the game, Boston fans chanted "He's a rookie!" when Tatum went to the line -- which unlike the Simmons' chant, is actually true, I guess.

“I don’t care,” Simmons said after the game. “It doesn’t affect me at all.”

Mitchell has waged some weird war of words in Simmons direction as the two are the favorites to win Rookie of the Year honors. Someone needs to remind Mitchell that Simmons didn't play a single game last season and that his first career NBA game was this season. How hard is that to understand?

We'll see how the Sixers respond in Game 2 in Boston on Thursday.
