Joel Embiid gets his MVP honor … well, this one is a bit different

Joel Embiid is up for Defensive Player of the Year, which will be announced June 25 at the 2018 NBA Awards in Santa Monica, California.

But the big man is already reeling in the accolades.

OK, this one not so glamorous.

Embiid finished the job Tuesday by winning the 2017-18 Shaqtin' A Fool MVP. If you recall, he also took home the Shaqtin' A Fool Midseason Award for Worst Moment of the Season.

Embiid was honored.

"I want to thank Shaq for acknowledging me for missing three dunks in a game as a 6-11 guy," Embiid said then. "But I just didn’t have my legs that day. Next time."

Knowing the fun-natured Embiid, he'll have a good laugh about this MVP nod.

In 2018-19, though, he'll be shooting for a different MVP trophy.

"I feel like next year is definitely going to be a type of MVP season for me,” he said last month.

"I want to be a leader. Being considered as an MVP, that just shows you that you’re bringing your team to wherever they have to go and I want to be that type of guy."

And if he has a few Shaqtin' A Fool moments along the way, that's just fine.
