Villanova knocked off No. 1 perch

Hinkle Fieldhouse has been been a recent house of horrors for Villanova. And the latest trip there has cost the Wildcats their No. 1 ranking.

The 'Cats, now 13-1 on the year, fell two spots to No. 3 in this week's AP poll following this past Saturday's 103-91 loss at Butler. The Bulldogs have now topped the Wildcats in the last three meetings between the schools in Indy.

Michigan State hopped up to No. 1 while Duke jumped to No. 2. Arizona State checked in at No. 4 and Big East rival Xavier rounded out the top five.

Despite the loss, Villanova still received one No. 1 vote. But it didn't hold up compared to the the 43 the Spartans received and the 21 the Blue Devils earned.

Jay Wright's Wildcats don't have a chance to wash the taste of defeat from their mouths until this Saturday when they host Marquette at Wells Fargo Center. After that, it's a titanic matchup with Xavier next Wednesday evening in South Philly.
