The week ahead in Philadelphia sports
Wednesday - Sixers at Timberwolves, 8 p.m.
The Sixers kick off the second half of the season in Minnesota, looking to avenge a 105-88 loss to the Timberwolves on Dec. 4. Evan Turner led the Sixers with 19 points and five rebounds. Minnesota heads into this game having lost 11 of 13, while the Sixers look to snap a two-game skid.
Wednesday - Flyers at Penguins, 7:30 p.m.
The Flyers will conclude their six-game road trip in Pittsburgh against the Penguins. In their only previous meeting this season, the Penguins defeated the Flyers 3-1 behind a goal and an assist from defenseman Paul Martin.
Thursday - Panthers at Flyers, 7 p.m.
The Flyers and Panthers will meet for the third time this season on Thursday. The two teams have split the two previous meetings, the last ending in a 3-2 shootout loss for the Flyers.
Thursday - La Salle at Temple, 7 p.m.
Two of the hottest teams in the Atlantic 10 will renew their City 6 rivalry. Temple has won three of its last four games, including an 83-82 thriller over Massachusetts. La Salle has won four in a row, most recently a 76-64 victory over St. Joseph's. The Owls have won seven straight over the Explorers. If La Salle wins, it claims the Big 5 title for the first time since 1989-90.
Thursday - Drexel at Delaware, 7 p.m.
Drexel begins a three-game road trip in Delaware on Thursday. Delaware is playing some of its best basketball of the season, winning six of eight. On Jan. 28, the Blue Hens defeated the Dragons 66-64, despite Damion Lee's career-high 30 points.
Friday - Penn at Cornell
Penn and Cornell will hit the floor for the first time in nearly a week on Friday. Penn has won two of three, and Cornell has won three straight. On Feb. 2, The Big Red defeated the Quakers 71-69 behind a go-ahead jump shot from Galal Cancer with 10 seconds remaining. Darien Nelson-Henry had 10 points for Penn.
Saturday - Jets at Flyers, 1 p.m.
The Flyers will host the Jets in their second of five in a row at the Wells Fargo Center. On Feb 12., the Flyers defeated Winnipeg 3-2 behind 24 saves from Ilya Bryzgalov.
Saturday - George Washington at Saint Joseph's, 4 p.m.
St. Joe's will host George Washington Saturday at 4 p.m. on The Comcast Network. The Hawks have lost three of four, but are 6-1 in their last seven meetings against the Colonials.
Saturday - Marquette at Villanova, 6 p.m.
The Wildcats and Golden Eagles will battle in their only meeting of the season. Last year, Villanova dropped both games against Marquette. JayVaughn Pinkston averaged 15 points and 4.5 rebounds in those two games.
Saturday - Penn at Columbia, 7 p.m.
Ivy League rivals Penn and Columbia will meet for the second time this season. The Quakers defeated the Lions, 62-58, on Feb. 1 behind 22 points from Miles Cartwright.
Saturday - Heat at Sixers, 7:30 p.m.
The Sixers will take on the Heat for the first time this season, looking to snap an 11-game regular-season losing streak to Miami. All-star Jrue Holiday will look to build on his 19 points and 8.9 assists per game.
Saturday - Drexel at Towson, 12 noon
Drexel travels to Towson, seeking its 10th consecutive victory over the Tigers. Towson ranks 13th in the nation in rebounding at 40.1 boards per game, while Drexel's 33.4 rebounds per game ranks 235th.
