NOTABLE QUOTES: GOLF CENTRAL LIVE FROM THE OPEN (SATURDAY)

Golf Central Live From The Open Notable Quotes
The 145TH Open – Round 3
Saturday, July 16
Royal Troon Golf Club, Troon, Scotland

**Live Final Round coverage of The 145TH Open will begin Sunday on Golf Channel, airing from 4-7 a.m. ET, and continue on NBC from 7 a.m. ET through the conclusion of play.**

On Henrik Stenson and Phil Mickelson separating themselves from the rest of the field
Frank Nobilo – “For all intents and purposes, The Open is closed with the exception of those two at the top of the leaderboard. And it should be too because they played the best golf. You needed strength and guile today, and those two had it in spades.”

On Stenson
Brandel Chamblee – “You might think at 40 years of age, why has he only won four times on the PGA TOUR? Well he’s not normally brilliant around the greens. He’s not normally brilliant on the greens. He’s in the top-10 in scrambling this week. He’s in the top-5 in putting. To go [along] with that wonderful vein of form that he comes in here with tee to green. And he’s going to be a very tough man to beat tomorrow, especially if the weather is anything like it was today.”
Nobilo – “We’ve always wondered what Henrik Stenson would be like if he hit the driver. We just found out today. It will be a good one tomorrow.”
Chamblee – “He’s never been in the position that he’s in right now. Hard to believe as good as Henrik Stenson is never having played in the final group of a major championship on Sunday.”

On Mickelson
Nobilo – “If you just look at some of the places Mickelson hit it, you’d be amazed at how he shot 70. It was a masterful round. Nearly every bit as good as the 63 given the conditions.”
Chamblee – “He needs to reverse the trend. Granted the first day was ideal scoring conditions, but every single day he’s hit fewer fairways and fewer greens… He had a three shot lead after the first day, a one shot lead after the second day, and now he’s one behind. He’s one behind on a golf course that demands you hit fairways, and demands you hit greens.”
Chamblee – “Two things have been rare this week. The sun shining at Troon, and Phil three-putting.”
Nobilo - “He doesn’t need his best stuff because I think 70 in these conditions for Mickelson to get to 12-under would probably win. And he has more than one way to do this. I think Stenson has to play good.”
