Baltusrol Golf Club, Springfield Township, N.J.
**Play was suspended on Saturday due to weather, and Round 3 is scheduled to resume at 7 a.m. ET on Sunday. The final round is scheduled to begin at 8:40 a.m. ET in the same pairings as Round 3, with all players beginning their final round on Hole #1.**
On the effect the Round 3 weather-suspended play
Brandel Chamblee – “It looked like a fairly obvious decision given the bleak forecast that we had today. But the fact that they were unlucky very likely has us going into [a] Monday [finish]. And depending on how gloomy you want to get, we could go into Tuesday as well.”
David Duval – “That’s where the hindsight looking back if this decision had been made differently… And they’d chosen to go to the two-tees and gotten most people done. There’s a good chance they could have actually completed play today… But it does create a very strange and unique situation where fourth round competitors are going to be playing at the same time as people are completing their third round… Conceivably you could have the tournament winner finish tomorrow but not be crowned until possibly Tuesday.”
Chamblee – “It’s going to add a particularly chaotic and unique dilemma to this major championship. You’ve got Kevin Kisner who is potentially going to tee off at 10 or 10:30ish tomorrow. Say he puts a good number on the leaderboard. He could finish tomorrow and then maybe be the leader in the clubhouse possibly until Tuesday. The same thing could happen to Padraig Harrington. It’s going to be a wild ride over the next day possibly, but very likely [next] two days.”
Duval – “Right now it’s shaping up and likening back to the ’09 U.S. Open at Bethpage. Where it was hitting balls at 6 in the morning and hitting balls at 6 at night. It was a long, long week. And it seems like that’s what’s shaping up at this moment right now. And that is very trying on a player. But the one thing that the top players will always do is they’ll remember what’s on the line and what’s at stake. And whether it’s Monday, Tuesday, they don’t care if it’s Wednesday. As long as they’re hoisting the Wanamaker trophy at the end of the week, they’ll stay until next Friday.”
