NEW YORK – February 8, 2014 – Coming up on NBC Olympics’ coverage of the XXII Olympic Winter Games:

Following are today’s highlights from NBCSN and MSNBC’s coverage of the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi:
Alpine skiing analyst Todd Brooker on five-time Olympic medalist Bode Miller, who had the fastest downhill training run today, the second consecutive day Miller was on top: “He has made it clear that he wants this Olympic gold medal.”
Analyst and two-time Olympian Johnny Weir on Team USA’s medal chances in team figure skating: “The United States has put the best possible performances out…With Ashley Wagner’s redemption today, the possibility of being on that podium is there, and it’s theirs for the taking.”
Analyst and Olympic gold medalist Tara Lipinski on reigning World ice dance champions Meryl Davis and Charlie White prior to their ice dance short performance in the team figure skating competition: “They’re just above and beyond anyone else out there…this is their moment.”
Weir on Davis and White earning the maximum 10 points in the ice dance portion of the team figure skating competition: “This is exactly where the U.S. wanted to be after this ice dance, short dance event. Meryl Davis and Charlie White are the United States’ sure thing in the team event.”
Figure skating reporter Tanith Belbin on the ice dancing rivalry between Team USA’s Davis and White and Canada’s Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir, who train at the same facility and share a coach: “When you look over your shoulder, and you see your greatest competition and how amazing they’re practicing, it can only push you to be better day in and day out.”
Lipinski on Ashley Wagner’s redemptive performance in the ladies’ short program for Team USA (Wagner finished fourth at the U.S. National Championships): “If that program said anything, it said ‘I belong here’”
Lipinski prior to Wagner’s performance: “This moment, right before your music starts, is when you’re thinking in your head ‘I have to get in the right mindset, I can do this.’”
Lipinski on Olympic Russian figure skating gold medalist and two-time silver medalist Yevgeny Plushnko: “He has reached legendary status.”
Figure skating play-by-play voice Terry Gannon on 15-year-old Russian figure skater Yulia Lipnitskaya, who performed in the ladies’ short program for team figure skating: “A couple of nights ago, they were in awe of Yevgeny Plushenko. Tonight, they just came along for the ride with Yulia Lipnitskaya.”
Weir on Lipnitskaya: “Yulia does every element impeccably, to the finest detail, flexibility and style.”
Analyst Natalie Darwitz on Canada’s 5-0 win over Switzerland in women’s hockey: “They came all ready to go. Talking to the players before the game, this is a fresh start for them. They wanted to give their coach [Kevin Dineen] his first international win - total domination by Team Canada.”
