NBC OLYMPICS AND TUNITY PARTNER ON “OUT-OF-HOME” VIEWERSHIP MEASUREMENT FOR TOKYO OLYMPICS

STAMFORD, Conn. – June 2, 2021 – NBC Olympics and Tunity will partner to measure “Out-of-Home” (OOH) viewership for NBCUniversal’s primetime coverage of the Games of the XXXII Olympiad from Tokyo, Japan, this summer, both parties announced today.

Tunity will provide OOH viewership figures for all NBCUniversal linear networks presenting the Tokyo Olympics in primetime, which includes NBC and multiple cable networks. The OOH figure will be incorporated into NBCUniversal’s holistic measurement of the Tokyo Games, which will also include traditional linear and digital metrics, to provide a complete picture of how many people are watching the Olympics across NBCU during the crucial primetime daypart.

“We look forward to working with Tunity to understand television viewership for the Olympics across multiple locations beyond the home. As consumption measurement continues to evolve, Tunity has emerged as a leader in accurately measuring national Out-of-Home viewership,” said Jorge De La Rosa, SVP, Research, NBC Sports Group. “We’ve known for decades that people gather together both in and out of their homes to watch the world’s athletes come together and compete at the Olympics. For the first time, Tunity will enable us to measure those Out-of-Home viewers and accurately add them to the massive and unmatched viewership that only the Olympic Games provide.”

“Tunity is honored to be working with NBCUniversal on the Tokyo Olympics,” said Yaniv Davidson, CEO Tunity. “NBCU has long been a pioneer in Olympic research and Tunity is excited to provide new OOH viewing and location measurement for this year’s Games. Tunity’s data is already showing the U.S. economy re-opening, and we are positive that national OOH will play a big role in the Olympics given the time difference.”

Tunity Analytics is the only existing platform for measuring OOH muted TV viewership. It leverages Tunity - a free app that uses Computer Vision and Deep Learning technology to allow users to scan a TV with their mobile devices and stream the audio when watching TV. Tunity generates viewing data, enabling the modeling of estimates of national OOH viewing to individual programs and networks within specific venues such as gyms, bars, restaurants and offices.

NBC Olympics will produce 7,000+ hours of coverage from Tokyo nearly 24 hours a day from July 23-August 8 across numerous NBCUniversal broadcast, cable and digital platforms.
