The Opening Ceremony of the Tokyo Olympics is Next Friday, July 23 on NBC

STAMFORD, Conn. – July 13, 2021 – Team USA women’s soccer and softball teams highlight the first competition at the Tokyo Olympics, beginning one week from today, Tuesday, July 20 across the networks of NBCUniversal.

Action begins on NBCSN on Tuesday – three nights before the Opening Ceremony – as softball returns to the Olympics for the first time since the 2008 Beijing Olympics with a doubleheader as host country Japan faces Australia live at 8 p.m. ET, followed by Team USA taking on Italy at 11 p.m. ET.

Next Wednesday, July 21, the U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team – which has won Olympic gold four times (1996, 2004, 2008 and 2012) – kick off their campaign against Sweden live at 4:30 a.m. ET on USA (with encore coverage at 8:30 a.m. ET and 6 p.m. ET on NBCSN). The USWNT features 11 players from the 2016 Olympic team, including Alex Morgan, Carli Lloyd, Tobin Heath, Megan Rapinoe and more. Wednesday also features live coverage of Team USA softball vs. Canada at 8 p.m. ET on NBCSN.

Then, on Thursday, July 22, live competition coverage features men’s soccer, highlighted by 2016 Olympic gold medalists Brazil facing Germany at 7:30 a.m. ET on USA Network. On NBCSN, qualifying heats for rowing get underway live at 7:30 p.m. ET.

Coverage of the Opening Ceremony is on Friday, July 23 on NBCUniversal.
