NBC SPORTS PRESENTS 20 HOURS OF HOCKEY WEEK IN AMERICA PROGRAMMING ACROSS NBC AND NBCSN THIS WEEKEND

STAMFORD, Conn. – March 27, 2020 – NBC Sports’ Hockey Week in America, reliving the top NHL games and moments from the past 10-plus years, will present over 20 hours of programming this weekend on NBC and NBCSN. Beginning today at 8 p.m. ET on NBCSN, coverage of three notable individual Stanley Cup Playoffs performances (John Tavares, Ben Bishop, and Patrick Kane) will air. Tomorrow, NBCSN will present three memorable playoff matchups between Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins and Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals starting at 8 p.m. ET.

On Sunday, the final day of Hockey Week in America, NBC Sports will present the 2018 Olympic women’s hockey gold medal game between the USA and Canada at 1 p.m. ET on NBC. NBCSN will conclude coverage with three Game 7 overtime thrillers at 8 p.m. ET.

PANTHERS-ISLANDERS (2016 FIRST ROUND, GAME 6 – JOHN TAVARES) AT 8 P.M. ET

Trailing by one with less than a minute remaining in regulation with the extra attacker on the ice, Islanders captain John Tavares scored to tie the game at one to force overtime. In the second overtime period, Tavares scored the game-winner, leading the Islanders to a playoff series win in 2016 for the first time in 23 years.

Chris Cuthbert (play-by-play) and Ray Ferraro (‘Inside-the-Glass’ analyst) called the matchup from Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.

STARS-BLUES (2019 SECOND ROUND, GAME 7 – BEN BISHOP) AT 10 P.M. ET

The Western Conference foes dueled to a Game 7 that went into double overtime. Dallas relied on St. Louis native Ben Bishop and his 52 saves, the 5th-most saves in a Game 7 in history, to nearly defeat the Blues, but St. Louis prevailed 2-1, on the way to their historic 2019 Stanley Cup run.

Play-by-play commentator Kenny Albert, U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame member Eddie Olczyk and ‘Inside-the-Glass’ analyst Pierre McGuire called the action from Enterprise Center in St. Louis, Mo.

KINGS-BLACKHAWKS (2013 WESTERN CONFERENCE FINAL, GAME 5 – PATRICK KANE) AT 12 A.M. ET

In a double-overtime thriller between these two Western Conference contenders, Patrick Kane and his series-clinching hat trick propelled Chicago to a 4-3 victory. In the Stanley Cup Final, the Blackhawks defeated the Bruins to capture the 2013 championship.

The late, great Dave Strader (play-by-play), Darren Pang (analyst), and Brian Engblom (‘Inside-the-Glass’ analyst) had the call from United Center in Chicago, Ill.

SATURDAY, MARCH 28 – CROSBY VS. OVECHKIN

The rivalry between Sidney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin will be on full display for nearly seven hours on Saturday on NBCSN with three of their most notable playoff matchups, starting at 8 p.m. ET. In all three instances, the winner of these series went on to win the Stanley Cup.

2009 EASTERN CONFERENCE SEMIFINALS GAME 2 AT 8 P.M. ET

In one of the most memorable matchups between the two rivals, Crosby and Ovechkin each scored hat tricks, and in the “dueling hat trick” game, the Capitals ultimately prevailed in a 4-3 victory.

Seven-time Emmy Award-winner Mike ‘Doc’ Emrick, Olczyk and McGuire had the call from Verizon Center in Washington D.C.

2016 SECOND ROUND GAME 6 AT 10 P.M. ET

Pittsburgh jumped out to a 3-0 lead before Washington rallied to tie the game in the third period. In overtime, Nick Bonino scored the series-winner to send the Penguins to the Eastern Conference Final. The Penguins would go on to win the Stanley Cup Final over the Sharks and Crosby was awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy.

Emrick, Olczyk and McGuire called the matchup from Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh, Pa.

2018 SECOND ROUND GAME 6 AT 12:30 A.M. ET

In what was their third straight matchup in the Second Round, Ovechkin and the Caps finally got the better of Crosby and the Penguins. Ovechkin recorded an assist on the overtime 2-1 winner from Evgeny Kuznetsov that clinched the series for Washington. The Capitals would go on to win their first-ever Stanley Cup.

Emrick, McGuire and analyst Mike Milbury had the call from PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, Pa.

SUNDAY, MARCH 29

This Sunday at 1 p.m. ET, NBC will present the women’s gold medal game at the 2018 Olympics between Team USA and Canada, won by the Americans in a 3-2 shootout in PyeongChang. With the victory, the women’s ice hockey team claimed its second ever Olympic gold medal and ended the Canadians streak of four straight gold medals.

Kenny Albert (play-by-play), AJ Mleczko (analyst) and McGuire called the gold medal game in PyeongChang.

Game 7 overtime thrillers programming will begin at 8 p.m. ET on NBCSN.
