The Chiefs have three quarterbacks on their initial 53-man roster, but Chris Oladokun is not among them.

Oladokun was waived with an injury designation on Sunday, which means he'll revert to injured reserve if he goes unclaimed and won't be able to play this season unless he's released with an injury settlement. Oladokun started the final two games of last season and has been in the organization since 2022.

Patrick Mahomes will be backed up by Justin Fields and Garrett Nussmeier this season.

The Chiefs also announced that they have released defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah, who played for the team in 2019 and re-signed with them earlier this month.

Linebacker Cole Christiansen, cornerback Kaiir Elam, and cornerback Kader Kohou were released as well. Defensive tackle Omarr Norman-Lott will remain on the physically unable to perform list while wide receiver Jimmy Holiday landed on injured reserve.

The Chiefs rounded out the day's moves by waiving defensive linemen Vincent Anthony, Cole Brevard, Ethan Hurkett, Niles King, Amari McNeill, Damon Payne, and Tyreke Smith; linebackers Kam Arnold, Wesley Bissainthe, and Cam Jones; wide receivers Andrew Armstrong, Jason Brownlee, Jacob DeJesus, Omari Evans, Xavier Loyd, and Jeff Weimer; running backs Emari Demercado, Jaydn Ott, and EJ Smith; offensive linemen Ethan Driskell, Chukwuebuka Godrick, C.J. Hanson, Pete Nygra, Esa Pole, and Josh Thompson; defensive backs Tanner McCalister, D'Arco Perkins-McAllister, DeShon Singleton, Melvin Smith, and Zelmar Vedder; and tight ends Mason Pline and Tre Watson.

The Seahawks cut cornerback Trevon Diggs on Sunday. It's not a permanent farewell.

Via Greg Bell of the Tacoma News Tribune, G.M. John Schneider said Sunday that the team intends to add Diggs to the practice squad.

Because Diggs is a vested veteran, he won't be required to pass through waivers. He could, in theory, sign with any other team's 53-man roster or practice squad. Given his recent arrival to Seattle, however, it's likely there won't be a high demand for his services elsewhere.

Schneider said the players, coaches, and staff love Diggs, and that he needs more time to acclimate.

Diggs was a second-round pick of the Cowboys in 2020. He was a two-time Pro Bowler in Dallas.

Tony Jefferson remains a Charger.

Although the Chargers were expecting to cut Jefferson as one of their moves to get down to 53 players today, they ended up keeping Jefferson on the roster.

According to Adam Schefter, the Chargers decided to keep Jefferson after trading cornerback Avery Smith and defensive lineman TeRah Edwards, which opened up two roster spots.

So, for now anyway, Jefferson remains in Los Angeles and remains a Charger.

Defensive tackle Aaron Donald returned to the Rams' roster on Sunday and he returned to the field with the team later in the day.

Video from Rams practice shows Donald going through drills with his teammates for the first time since he retired after the 2023 season. Donald worked out at the team's facility on his own multiple times while making up his mind about ending that retirement to suit up alongside Myles Garrett on the team's defensive line.

That became reality on Sunday and Donald's presence on the practice field shows that he'll be pushing to get on the field when the Rams face the 49ers in Australia to open the season.

That game is on September 10, so there's a little more than a week of time for Donald to work with the team before they are on the field in Melbourne.

The Panthers have set their initial 53-player roster.

They announced they waived cornerback DeCarlos Nicholson, cornerback Cam Miller, safety Demani Richardson, outside linebacker Isaiah Smith, linebacker Maz Mwansa, defensive tackle Parker Petersen, offensive lineman Isaia Glass, cornerback Devonta Smith, linebacker Maema Njongmeta, center Nick Samac, running back Tre Tyus, cornerback Corey Thornton, wide receiver Casey Washington, wide receiver Ja'seem Reed, linebacker Trevin Wallace and defensive tackle Jared Harrison-Hunte.

The Panthers also released 10 vested veterans, terminating the contracts of wide receiver David Moore, defensive tackle Elijah Garcia, offensive lineman Jake Curhan, cornerback Robert Rochell, safety Isaiah Simmons, outside linebacker Cam Gill, offensive lineman Ja'Tyre Carter, quarterback Kyle Trask, tight end James Mitchell and outside linebacker Jeremiah Moon.

Running back Trevor Etienne and linebacker Bam Martin-Scott went on injured reserve with designations to return.

Cornerback Tyrek Funderburk was waived with an injury designation.

The team also placed right tackle Taylor Moton on the reserve/non-football illness list, and left tackle Ikem Ekwonu and defensive tackle Tershawn Wharton on reserve/physically unable to perform list.

The Panthers traded a 2028 sixth-round pick to the Chargers for defensive tackle TeRah Edwards.

With those moves, the Panthers are at the 53-man limit, and can establish a practice squad on Monday.

UPDATE: The Chargers didn’t cut Tony Jefferson after all.

Longtime NFL safety Tony Jefferson may have reached the end of the line.

The Chargers released the 34-year-old Jefferson today.

Jefferson retired once before, in 2023, spending that season working for the Ravens as a scout. But in 2024 he decided to come out of retirement and signed with the Chargers, and he's been with them the last two years.

Originally an undrafted rookie with the Cardinals in 2013, Jefferson became a quality starter and had stints with the Cardinals, Ravens, 49ers and Giants.

Now Jefferson will have to decide whether to try to find another team that wants an aging safety, or whether to retire for a second and final time.

Aaron Donald isn't the only Rams player making a return to practice on Sunday.

Via multiple reporters on the scene, receiver Puka Nacua is back on the field participating in the day's session.

Nacua had been sidelined by a groin issue.

But while Nacua is on the field, edge rusher Myles Garrett is still out of practice. While he's on the field, he's not in uniform and is working with trainers off to the side as he deals with swelling in his knee.

With their 53-man roster set, the Rams are now ready to prepare to play the 49ers in Australia to open the season on Sept. 10.

The Raiders have officially set their first 53-man roster under head coach Klint Kubiak.

The Texans have their initial 53-player roster.

They announced a series of moves Sunday that included the termination of the contracts of CB Bryce Hall, linebacker Caleb Johnson, defensive tackle Naquan Jones, wide receiver Zay Jones, tight end Brevin Jordan, safety George Odum, defensive end Dominique Robinson, quarterback Brett Rypien, wide receiver Sterling Shepard and wide receiver Justin Watson.

The Broncos' reduction to 53 includes the release of a fourth-year running back who has appeared in 41 games with nine starts.

Jaleel McLaughlin is among the cuts the Broncos made.

As expected, linebacker Jonathon Cooper was placed on the Commissioner Exempt list.

Defensive end Mykel Williams will not play in at least the first four games of the 49ers' season.

Williams will remain on the physically unable to perform list as he continues to recover from last season's torn ACL. The team also confirmed that running back Isaac Guerendo will stay on the PUP list into the regular season.

Wide receiver Christian Kirk and offensive lineman Austen Pleasants are on injured reserve with designations to return. Offensive linemen Brett Toth and Nick Zakelj are also on injured reserve, but won't be eligible to return.

The Saints will officially be without one of their key rookies for at least the season's first four weeks.

New Orleans placed Jodryn Tyson on injured reserve as part of their moves to reduce their roster to 53 players on Sunday.

While Tyson has been designated to return, he will not be eligible to play until New Orleans' Week 5 matchup with the Vikings.

Tyson suffered a hamstring injury during a joint practice with the Jaguars earlier this month. While Tyson has a history of hamstring injuries, head coach Kellen Moore has said this one is unrelated to what he’s experienced in the past.

The Saints selected Tyson at No. 8 overall in this year’s draft.

For the rest of their transactions, the Saints released safety Terrell Burgess, cornerback Michael Davis, running back Zamir White, and cornerback Isaac Yiadom.

New Orleans waived defensive lineman Myles Cole, receiver Jalen Cropper, edge rusher Fadil Diggs, running back CJ Donaldson, cornerback TJ Hall Jr., tight end Cody Hardy, offensive tackle Alan Herron, offensive tackle Easton Kilty, receiver Trey Palmer, guard Torricelli Simpkins III, linebacker Jackson Sirmon, kicker Charlie Smyth, defensive lineman Jay’Viar Suggs, and offensive tackle Alex Wollschlaeger.

The Saints placed five players on injured reserve: cornerback Dalys Beanum, edge rusher Mike Heldman, cornerback David Long Jr., running back Devin Neal, and offensive tackle Barry Wesley.

Along with Tyson, linebacker Jaylan Ford has been placed on IR with a designation to return.

Finally, the club placed receiver Mason Tipton on the reserve/physically unable to perform list and receiver Brock Rechsteiner on the reserve/suspended list.

The Panthers are acquiring a young defensive lineman.

Per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Chargers are trading defensive tackle TeRah Edwards to the Panthers.

Carolina will send Los Angeles a 2028 sixth-round pick to complete the deal.

Edwards, 25, played his college ball at Illinois. He has not yet appeared in a regular-season game.

Edwards now adds some depth to a Carolina defensive unit that is led up front by Derrick Brown.

To get to 53 players on the roster, the Packers continue to keep linebacker Micah Parsons off the roster. As expected, he has been moved from active/physically unable to perform to reserve/PUP.

The Packers have two quarterbacks on the roster — Jordan Love and Tyrod Taylor. Also, pending the physical that will finalize the trade with the Steelers for running back Kaleb Johnson, the Packers will have three tailbacks: Chris Brooks, MarShawn Lloyd, and Johnson.

Cornerback Trevon Diggs' time with the Seahawks did not last long. He signed with the team on Aug. 19 but was part of the team's move to reach 53 players on Sunday.

Diggs intercepted a pass and made a tackle in the team's preseason finale, but it wasn't enough for him to lock up a roster spot.

His career could be over, with three teams having cut him since Dec. 30.

Diggs has played only 22 games and undergone three procedures on his knee in the past three seasons.

The Seahawks' other notable move was placing running back Zach Charbonnet on reserve/PUP as expected. He injured his knee on his fifth carry in the divisional round of the 2025 playoffs after running for 730 yards and 12 touchdowns on 184 carries in the regular season.

The Titans confirmed that they waived quarterback Will Levis on Sunday afternoon and they also announced the departure of Hendon Hooker.

With both quarterbacks on the list of cuts, the Titans have Cam Ward and Mitchell Trubisky on the depth chart. Teams can begin filling out their practice squads and the Titans seem likely to have a third quarterback on that roster.

The Steelers' 53-man roster includes a player who spent all of training camp and the preseason on the physically unable to perform list.

Cornerback Joey Porter Jr., who has been a hold-in since camp opened, is now on the 53-man roster. Which makes sense. He's not injured; he's simply waiting for the contract he hasn't gotten.

To get to the in-season maximum, the Steelers waived these players: DL Kyler Baugh; DB Devan Boykin; DB Sebastian Castro; DL Anthony Goodlow; WR Max Hurleman; DB D'Shawn Jamison; OL Steven Jones; TE Lance Mason; TE Lake McRee; OL Doug Nester; RB Lew Nichols; DB Doneiko Slaughter; WR Brandon Smith; LB Julius Welschof; and LB Jacoby Windmon.

The following vested veterans were terminated: LB Malik Harrison; RB Travis Homer; DL Dean Lowry; DL Esezi Otomewo; and LB Elandon Roberts.

Defensive back DeShon Elliott and offensive lineman Jack Driscoll were placed on IR, with a designation to return, and defensive back Donte Kent landed on the reserve/PUP list.

The Steelers released eleven players on Friday and two on Saturday.

The Rams have reduced their roster to 53 players in advance of the league’s 6 p.m. ET deadline on Sunday.

Of course, the club’s roster now includes defensive tackle Aaron Donald, who officially came out of retirement to play for Los Angeles in 2026 on Sunday afternoon.

To get down to 53 players, the Rams waived or released Nick Andersen, A.J. The Cowboys have only two tailbacks on their initial 53-player roster. Among their 39 announced moves, the Cowboys waived running backs Jayden Blue, Israel Abanikanda, Jashaun Corbin and Phil Mafah.

That leaves only Javonte Williams and Malik Davis at the position along with fullback Hunter Luepke.

The Cowboys released outside linebacker Sam Williams, a second-round pick from 2022.

Linebacker Marist Liufau and cornerback Devin Moore were placed on injured reserve with a designation to return.

Aaron Donald has officially decided to come out of retirement, the Rams announced on Sunday.

According to multiple reports, Donald has agreed to a one-year deal worth $20 million that can escalate up to $30 million for 2026.

Donald, a three-time AP defensive player of the year, retired after the 2023 season and has spent the last two years out of football. When the Rams traded for Myles Garrett, buzz began to form that Donald could come out of retirement to play with him, forming an impressive duo along the L.A. defensive front. Donald took the month to work out and decide, and now he’s back.

Donald was a first-team All-Pro eight times and made the Pro Bowl in each of his 10 seasons with the Rams. The No. 13 overall pick of the 2014 draft, Donald has registered 111.0 sacks with 176 tackles for loss and 260 quarterback hits in his career.

Now 35, he will be a significant piece as the Rams will look to make it back to the Super Bowl, which will be played at their home field of SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles in February.

Just after the news broke, Donald spoke with reporter Jordan Schultz of the Schultz Report to explain his decision.

“I’ve been working the last 12-13 weeks to train my body and get it to a point where I felt like I could still play the game at a high level and be durable,” Donald said. “I am now ready to come back to try and do something special with this group of guys.

“We back.”

Schultz adds that Donald will be back at the Rams' facility later on Sunday to take part in meetings.

Per a source with knowledge of the situation, a Week 1 debut remains "possible" for Donald. It hinges on how his ongoing ramp-up efforts unfold.

If he had returned earlier this month, he would have been on track for 30-40 snaps in the regular-season opener.

The Rams open the season in Australia on September 10. They reportedly will arrive a day before the game, giving them extra time to get Donald ready at the team facility.

The specific timing of Donald's return opens the door to the possibility that Donald will be placed on the reserve/PUP or reserve/NFI list to start the season. There has been some chatter that Donald had hoped to go that route; however, the Rams (we're told) want him back "ASAP."

His contract is structured to let him miss two games but still make his full $20 million base compensation package. He has 53-man roster bonuses of $666,667 that max out at $10 million.

Regardless, he'll be back. Whether that's in Week 1 or Week 2 or later remains to be seen.

And the return of defensive tackle Aaron Donald has been memorialized in a contract that replaces the $30 million salary on the one year that remained on his prior deal, when he retired after the 2023 season.

Per a source with knowledge of the contract, here are the details:

1. 2026 base salary: $10 million.

2. 2026 53-man roster bonus: $666,667 per game, with a maximum of 15 games.

3. 2026 playoff qualification incentive: $2.5 million, if he plays at least 15 percent of the regular-season defensive snaps.

4. 2026 wild-card incentive: $1.25 million, if active for the game (or if the Rams earn a bye).

5. 2026 divisional-round incentive: $1.25 million, if active for the game.

6. 2026 conference championship incentive: $2.5 million, if the team wins the game, if he participates in at least 20 percent of the defensive snaps in the NFC Championship, and if he participates in at least 15 percent of the regular-season snaps.

That's a maximum of $30 million. But it ultimately hinges on getting to the Super Bowl and winning it.

Which is one of the big reasons why he's coming back, after two years out of football.

The Bills announced several roster moves on Saturday and they finished off the work of paring their roster to 53 players on Sunday.

Their moves included trading center Sedrick Van Pran-Granger to the Colts and moving two players to injured lists. Wide receiver Tyrell Shavers will move to the reserve/physically unable to perform list and defensive lineman Zane Durant has been placed on injured reserve.

Defensive lineman Phidarian Mathis was moved to the suspended list for the first three games of the season.

The Bills have also waived or released offensive linemen Nick Broeker, Chase Lundt, and Da'Metrius Weatherspoon; linebackers Jimmy Ciarlo, Keonta Jenkins, and Andre Jones; defensive backs Te'Cory Couch, Anthony Kendall, Toriano Pride, Geno Stone, and Kani Walker; wide receivers Stephen Gosnell, Ja'Mori Maclin, Trent Sherfield, and Max Tomczak; running backs Frank Gore Jr., Ben VanSumeren, and Ian Wheeler; quarterback Shane Buechele; defensive lineman Travis Clayton; and punter Mitch Wishnowsky.

The Cardinals reached 53 players on Sunday afternoon.

Their moves included placing running back James Conner on injured reserve with a designation to return. He will miss at least the first four games before returning to game action as he works his way back from last season's ankle injury.

The Cardinals also announced the release of 2023 second-round pick linebacker BJ Ojulari, who has not been the same since a serious training camp knee injury in 2024. Eku Leota made the team over Ojulari.

Veteran cornerback Sean Murphy-Bunting was also released, a sign that slot starter Garrett Williams is nearing his return. Williams was recently removed from the active/PUP list after coming back from an Achilles injury.

The Cardinals kept three quarterbacks for the first time in a long time, with Jacoby Brissett, Gardner Minshew II and Carson Beck making the roster.

The Vikings have trimmed their roster to 53. The names of players terminated or waived do not include any of their four quarterbacks.

The Eagles are keeping all four of their quarterbacks on the 53-player roster to start the regular season.

Jalen Hurts, Tanner McKee, Andy Dalton and Cole Payton are all on the 53-man roster that Philadelphia released after today's roster cutdown deadline.

Hurts was obviously going to make it, and the Eagles love the potential of Payton, a talented rookie who was a better runner than passer in college. McKee and Dalton were competing to be the No. 2 behind Hurts, and the Eagles apparently decided they've both earned a roster spot, at least for now.
