Abdoulaye Doucoure to Everton official as midfield restoration complete

Watford's Andre Carrillo sends a cross into Abdoulaye Doucoure who scores with a first-time shot to make it 3-2 against Man United.

Abdoulaye Doucoure to Everton is official, the longtime Watford presence joining a revamped Toffees midfield that includes James Rodriguez and Allan.

What a window this has been for the fightin’ Ancelottis of Everton, whose midfield was a shambles last season.

Coming for a fee of around $31 million, Doucoure gives Everton an impact in all thirds. The physical and explosive midfielder brings 17 goals and 12 assists in 129 Premier League appearances with Watford.

“With Mr. Ancelotti here it is a good choice for me,” Doucoure said upon his unveiling. “I am very excited about the project, we are bringing new players like James and Allan. Big players. I want to be part of that project.”

Even if James plays on the wing, Allan and Doucoure alone are a major step forward from last season’s largely ineffective bunch that includes Tom Davies, Fabian Delph, Gylfi Sigurdsson, and Andre Gomes.

You’d expect the last name, if not the latter two should Sigurdsson stay amidst reported DC United interest, to be better with Allan and Doucoure.

Richarlison’s leading the attack and will certainly be more interested in the project given the additions. The back line is fine and Dominic Calvert-Lewin took major strides under Ancelotti.

If Jordan Pickford can provide even average goalkeeping, Everton should be in for its best season in a good while.
