The Red Devils have scored just two goals this season through the opening three games and United’s offensive output, especially the struggles of Wayne Rooney, have been worrying pundits and fans alike.

However their own manager Louis van Gaal is not too concerned and even though only one of his players (Adnan Januzaj) has scored a goal this season, he will not be diving into the transfer market.

“No that I have said already because as a fan you have to see how we have played this match,” van Gaal said. “The performance was good and the fans were always behind the players. It was a fantastic match to watch but we were unlucky. We have to score our chances and, in the next match, we shall score maybe a goal out of three chances and that is better. The performance today was better though.”

Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez was brought on late in the game and had a great chance saved superbly after Tim Krul in the dying stages. Van Gaal conceded United could have done better with some of their crosses.

“It’s also luck. I think it was a great dribble by Chicharito after getting the ball. I think you also need luck in football and it’s not only what you say about quality,” van Gaal said. “I think the quality in the third phase in the crossing positions, we didn’t do so good, we didn’t make the right choices. But we played fantastic as a team and we have fought until the end and that’s fantastic to see. I like this type of game, only the result was bad.”

Going forward United may have struggled, but on the plus side they have not conceded a goal yet this season.
