Sporting Lisbon and Argentina defender Marcos Rojo has publicly commented on his future as a Manchester United player, and now the Portuguese club has confirmed it will send him to Old Trafford in exchange for Nani on loan and money.

The rumored figure is $27 million, and some reports say United will pay Nani’s full wages.

Rojo, 24, has long been rumored to be headed to Manchester, and reports surfaced Tuesday that said his transfer was on.

The move is the cherry on top of his exceptional World Cup (provided he enjoys cherries).

Rojo gives United an instant boost to their back line and allow manager Louis van Gaal some options in his beleaguered unit, which has been beset with injuries and fitness concerns during the first moments of the 2014/15 Premier League season.

He’ll be the first high-profile signing since the Red Devils added Ander Herrera and Luke Shaw earlier this summer.

Meanwhile, Nani leaves after making 228 appearances and scoring 40 goals since 2007. After back-to-back 10 goal seasons, the 27-year-old Portugal star has made just 35 appearances for United in the past two seasons (and this opening weekend). He scored the opening goal in Portugal’s 2-2 draw with the USMNT at the 2014 World Cup.
