Chelsea 2-0 Arsenal: Deadly Blues too much for Wenger, Gunners (video)

From the first whistle to the last, Chelsea and Arsenal battled tooth and nail, but the home side proved the clear title favorites as Stamford Bridge.

Eden Hazard finished his own penalty after slicing through the Gunners midfield on the half hour mark, and Diego Costa finished things off with under 15 minutes to go.

Things, expectedly, began to get heated between the two clubds, needing just a spark. That came in the form of a challenge by Gary Cahill on Alexis Sanchez, which did not draw a caution from referee Martin Atkinson.

That caused tension between the two rival managers, and it boiled over into anger. Arsene Wenger left his technical area to confront Jose Mourinho, and the Arsenal boss shoved his counterpart.

That flared things up on the pitch, as Cahill and Calum Chambers earned yellow cards. Chambers’ card is his fifth of his season, earning a caution in each of his five starts for Arsenal, meaning he will be suspended for a match.

Chelsea were forced into an injury substitution, as goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois had to go off. A collision with Alexis Sanchez in the early minutes of the game caught up with him, and the Belgian keeper was taken to the hospital with a suspected concussion.

The game picked back up to life after Atkinson got things under control, and Chelsea took control. Eden Hazard made a blistering, scything run through the midfield, and ended up through in the box causing Laurent Koscielny to bring him down in the box. It was an easy call as Atkinson pointed to the spot, and Hazard converted himself to put Chelsea up before the half hour mark.

Arsenal responded well as Santi Cazorla found Jack Wilshere in gobs of space in the box, but the midfielder’s touch was too heavy and Cech came out to collect. That was all the Gunners would have before halftime, with both sides lucky to be with their full 11 men.

Neither side let up in the second half, and although chances were at a minimum, Chelsea again proved deadly. With 13 minutes remaining, Diego Costa killed off the game with a lovely chip of Wjoceich Szczesny off a beautiful ball from Cesc Fabregas for a 2-0 lead.
