File this one under: “Things we pretty much knew, now made official.”

Clint Dempsey says he will wait for the summer transfer period to decide his future. The U.S. international is desperate for a taste of Champions League soccer. He loves Craven Cottage and his major stake in all things Fulham FC – but he may well have outgrown the hard-trying West London club.

So while Fulham and manager Martin Jol work to resign Dempsey – he has a year and change left on the current deal, signed back in August of 2009 – Dempsey confirmed over the weekend that he has a big choice ahead.

“I am talking with the club but we will have to see what happens in the summer,” he said Saturday after striking twice in the Cottagers 3-0 win over Bolton.

Other Dempsey quotes on the matter are in the linked piece from The Independent.
