DC United won’t have Bill Hamid for 4-6 weeks; How much will it cost them?
DC United’s stingy defense has led the club to a healthy lead in the race for Eastern Conference’s No. 1 seed, but will it be able to bear the loss of the reigning Goalkeeper of the Year?
Hamid is set to miss between 4-6 weeks after undergoing surgeries on his right hand and right knee. It’s a tendon in his hand that needed repair, and arthroscopic surgery on his meniscus in the knee.

Longtime backup Andrew Dykstra is one of DC’s backups, along with 22-year-old third keeper Travis Worra, a University of New Hampshire product.

So will DC be able to weather a month or two without Hamid? The schedule is reasonable. After a match with FC Dallas on Saturday, DC gets Philadelphia, Real Salt Lake, New York City, San Jose and the New York Red Bulls. Only RBNY and Dallas are currently in playoff position.
We think DC will be able to maintain its current pace of 1.67 points per game, though it will see its nine-point table lead shrink as teams make up matches-in-hand. Only Dallas and Sporting KC are on a better pace in the race for the Supporters Shield.
