Did Landon Donovan throw shade at Jurgen Klinsmann with celebratory USWNT Tweet?

Either Landon Donovan is emotionally removed from last summer’s World Cup roster omission drama, or the USMNT legend just passive-aggressively lashed out at former coach Jurgen Klinsmann.

Minutes after the United States women’s team finished an inspiring 2-0 takedown of Germany in the in Women’s World Cup semifinal on Tuesday, Donovan Tweeted this shout out to the team and its legendary super sub Abby Wambach.

Love the enthusiasm and veteran presence of @AbbyWambach despite not playing much. That kind of leadership is priceless during a WC

In case you’ve forgotten, Donovan was left off the 2014 World Cup roster, much to the chagrin of both the players and thousands of fans. In her final World Cup, Wambach has been relegated to the role of super sub after starting earlier in the tournament.

The Tweet came across my feed, retweeted with the added comment of “LULZ”. My first thought was similar, along the lines of, “Ha! Landon doesn’t realize the comparison he just made.”

And as the RT’s multiplied, I realized he’s far too clever a mind to not know what he’s saying. It’s inconsequential, but he had to know what he was doing, no?

Funny or tacky?

EDIT: Alexi Lalas tossed it right back...

Agreed. @J_Klinsmann should have taken @AbbyWambach. https://t.co/YSB2atDagU
