After lighting up Major League Soccer with the Montreal Impact, Didier Drogba said he likely won’t play for Chelsea on loan during the offseason.

Drogba scored 12 goals in 14 games with Montreal, turning around the club’s season and leading the team to the playoffs.

With Chelsea struggling in the Premier League, it was suggested that maybe Drogba would return to Stamford Bridge. While the 37-year-old said he would be happy to train, he wasn’t sure about playing with the first-team.

I’m not too hot on that idea. I need to rest and make sure that I’m ready for the new season.

To train? Why not? But it’s something I would need to discuss with [Montreal], because I belong to them. I signed a one-and-a-half year contract, I always like to respect what I have signed.

Drogba is the fourth-highest goalscorer in Chelsea history, tallying 164 times for the Blues. He played eight seasons at Stamford Bridge before short stints in China and Turkey, returning to Chelsea in 2014 for one last run. He scored seven goals in his final season, winning the Premier League and League Cup.
