Euro 2016 qualification preview: Final round make or break for many

12 spots have already been filled in the Euro 2016 finals in France, including three debutants. 12 are still to be determined.

Eight of those 12 remaining spots will be filled in the final round as each group comes to a close. The remaining four will be determined in the playoff round.

14 teams are still in contention for those eight spots, and all will be determined in the next few days. Here are all the games, plus how each team still in contention for a locked berth can automatically qualify:


Armenia vs. Albania - Albania would qualify with win
Faroe Islands vs. Romania - Romania would qualify with a win OR draw and Hungary loss
Greece vs. Hungary - Hungary would qualify with a win AND Romania draw or loss
Poland vs. Republic of Ireland - Winner would qualify OR Poland would qualify with 0-0 or 1-1 draw and Germany draw/win OR Rep of Ireland would qualify with draw of 2-2 or greater with Germany draw or win OR both sides would qualify with draw and Germany loss
Germany vs. Georgia - Germany would only fail to qualify with loss AND Poland and Rep of Ireland draw
Finland vs. Northern Ireland
Serbia vs. Portugal
Gibraltar vs. Scotland


Sweden vs. Moldova - Sweden would qualify with win AND Russia loss
Russia vs. Montenegro - Russia would qualify with win or draw OR Sweden draw or loss
Ukraine vs. Spain - Ukraine would qualify by beating Slovakia’s result
Luxembourg vs. Slovakia - Slovakia would qualify by beating or matching Ukraine’s result
*San Marino vs. Slovenia
Austria vs. Lichtenstein
Lithuania vs. England
Estonia vs. Switzerland
Belarus vs. Macedonia


Turkey vs. Iceland - Turkey can qualify with win AND Kazakhstan win AND Hungary loss AND Croatia loss AND Ukraine draw or loss
Malta vs. Croatia - Croatia can qualify with win AND Norway loss or draw
Italy vs. Norway - Norway can qualify with win OR Croatia loss or draw
*Netherlands vs. Czech Republic
*Belgium vs. Israel
*Cyprus vs. Bosnia & Herzegovina
Bulgaria vs. Azerbaijan
Wales vs. Andorra
Latvia vs. Kazakhstan

*Also to keep in mind, teams like the Netherlands, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Israel and Slovenia are out of contention for automatic qualification, but they are still fighting for their lives for third place to qualify for the playoff round.

As far as goal scoring goes (because who doesn’t love a good goalscorer?), Robert Lewandowski all but has the leading scorer award wrapped up with 12 goals to his name, four ahead of Thomas Muller and Artyom Dzyuba behind him at eight, while Edin Dzeko, Wayne Rooney, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and Kyle Lafferty each sit on seven a piece.
