Everton 0-3 Manchester United: Red Devils run over Toffees

  • United keeps pace with City, sits 2nd
  • Toffees drop to ninth with 13 points
  • Rooney nets a beaut to finish it

Morgan Schneiderlin, Wayne Rooney and Ander Herrera each scored as Manchester United cruised to a win in a building which has haunted them in recent years.

The Red Devils won at Goodison Park for the first time in four years, and Roberto Martinez’s boys failed a litmus test in a 3-0 loss on Saturday.

Romelu Lukaku took a dangerous free kick about 35 yards out from goal, dead center, and the hard left-footed-shot deflected to loop over the goal.

But United struck first, aided by a bit of ping-pong in the box off a Juan Mata cross. Schneiderlin was Johnny-on-the-spot at the far post, and struck a low shot across the face of goal to beat Tim Howard.

Herrera doubled the Red Devils’ advantage in the 23rd moment, heading home a Marcos Rojo cross after a grievous Everton tackle on Memphis.

Rooney put an emphatic finish on the victory when he ran onto a pass and bundled a ball past Howard. 3-0. No chance of a comeback.

Earlier Saturday, the soccer world learned it lost legendary Everton manager Howard Kendall at the age of 69.
