Speaking in his post-match press conference Koeman confirmed that he had spoken with Lukaku on Friday and the Belgian international intends to remain at Everton despite widespread links with Chelsea this summer.
Koeman also revealed that the possibility of Lukaku signing a new deal at Everton is “possible” and had the following to say about their chat.
Lukaku had been struggling with a slight injury and came off the bench after 37 minutes with Everton trailing 1-0 on Saturday. He made an immediate impact as Kevin Mirallas equalized right on half time and then Everton won it through Gareth Barry’s close-range header in the second half.
The towering Belgian striker gave Koeman’s side an outlet up top to work off and they looked a completely different, and better, team when he came on.
Since joining from Chelsea first on loan for a season in 2013-14 and then permanently in the summer of 2014, Lukaku has scored 61 goals in 127 appearances.
His value to the Toffees is huge and so was the transfer fee of over $75 million being discussed for his services.
Lukaku has a contract until 2019 with Everton and if they can convince him to sign a new one with Koeman at the helm and plenty of money to spend thanks to their new owner Farhad Moshiri, this team will be built around the Belgian.
